A basic, but every installation should include shut-off valves on hot and cold water lines and plumbing fixtures.

Strategically placed shut-offs are indispensable to have when working on plumbing fixtures, a washer or hot water heater.

For example, anytime a fixture needs repair (or installation in new construction situations) its individual shut-off allows the rest of the house to remain "live."

In-line lever or "wheel" shut-offs

It shouldn't be necessary to turn off the water to the entire house just to fix a leaky faucet, but that's exactly what many homeowners must do. Why? Because they don't have individual shutoff valves installed under every sink.
